About Odious

Fuck the Hokey Pokey... this is what it's really all about.

Picture
We all used to love playing board games. But you’ve gotten older, you’ve grown out of them, and now you just stare at your fucking phone instead of having fun with your friends. Well Odious wants to change that - by providing R-Rated board games that will make you put down your phone and realize how funny your friends can be.

You may have heard of Cards Against Humanity, the genre-defining party game for adults. It’s objectively the best. The makers of Cards had the relatively simple (and completely brilliant) idea to take an existing kids’ game, Apples to Apples, and update it with adult content. As anybody who has played the game knows, the cards are superb and the game is hilarious.

They say imitation is the highest form of flattery; it’s also a great substitute for original ideas.

If the concept of applying off-color, risqué content to existing kids’ games has been proven, why not apply it more broadly? Shouldn't other kids games be more fun with adult content? This is the idea that spawned Odious. Because who can help but laugh at inappropriate humor?

Here are the two things that are needed from you:
  1. Don’t be awful. Much of the content in these games is in bad taste, but it’s meant to be in good fun. If your intention is to be hateful or hurtful - or alternatively if you’re one of those annoying, bitchy, easily offended pains in the ass - don’t play the games. Just walk away. And maybe jump off a cliff.
  2. Have fun friends. This is crucial, and honestly, if you have the "don't be awful" thing taken care of, it probably comes naturally. All you need for good times is good people. Everything else – from your venue to your activity to your level of inebriation – pales in comparison to the company you keep.

So if you can do those two things – not be awful and have fun friends – Odious can help provide the entertainment.

To clarify, Odious alone can’t provide entertainment... you are what makes these games fun. The content in these games was developed and refined by a team that includes professional comedians, PhDs in psychology, functioning alcoholics, and regular people who love playing games, all with the goal of providing prompts that allow *you* to be creative and funny.

That’s basically it. Classic games. Mature content. Immature people. Everything you’ve ever wanted.

You’ve grown up. Your games should too. Party Odious.

If you're one of those nerds who likes to do extra credit reading, this article in ToyNews does a pretty good job of summing up Odious.
